Lohr Building
Historic Lohr Building restored with preserved façade and adaptive reuse that reactivated its commercial storefronts.
Built in 1893, the Lohr Building is a historic three-story red brick landmark that has long served as a cornerstone of Wilkinsburg’s commercial district. A rehabilitation completed in 2020 preserved the building’s distinctive architectural features, including its iconic arched windows, while modernizing the structure for contemporary use. Through careful adaptive reuse, the project transformed a largely vacant building into a vibrant mixed-use destination featuring offices, community arts space, and commercial tenants. The restoration demonstrates the power of historic preservation to revitalize significant buildings, support local organizations, and strengthen community investment in Wilkinsburg’s historic core.
